Royal's Tournament MVP : Darius Miller

+ Mason County's Darius Miller was the Most Valuable Player for the Royals in the 10th Region Tournament as he led his team in scoring and rebounding with an average of 21 points and 8 rebounds.

As always the Royals Star entertained with his graceful skills and signature combination of fluid offensive scoring and tough defensive play. Miller finished with an impressive 26 Steals and 22 Blocked Shots while shooting 55% from the field and 75% from the line.

Royals give Valiant Effort in Classic Matchup

The Mason County Royals were outscored 63 to 59 in an epic battle with The Clark County Cardinals on Sunday before an excited vibrant crowd in The Fieldhouse. The Royals were led by a spectacular 33 point performance by Junior Forward Darius Miller and a strong game from Trevor Setty who finished with 13 Points and 6 Rebounds.

The Cardinals, bolstered by the skills of guard Preston Knowles, held off a furious fourth quarter comeback attempt by the Royals. Knowles had 33 points, including 25 in the pressure packed second half.

On a dramatic stage made for superstars the two teams traded baskets for most of the game and kept the fans roaring on both sides. Big Players play Big in games that mean the most. Mason County's Darius Miller and Clark County's Preston Knowles did just that, scoring on many back and forth exchanges and giving the packed house quite a show.

The tensest moments were in the Final Quarter when the Royals were storming back and the Cardinals continued to answer the call. Every possession was hotly contested and the excitement built as the clock ticked down.

After tough back to back field goals from Trevor Setty and Darius Miller, Mason County trailed by only 2 points with 1:47 left in the game. Following 2 free throws by Preston Knowles, a Mason County turnover led to a deflating Clark County Three Pointer that gave the Cardinals a 7 point lead with 1 minute to play.

Mason County then turned up the defense and sparked a comeback. The Royals electrified the homecrowd and climbed to within three on a Setty score in the lane followed by a quick Cardinal turnover with 39 seconds remaining.

The student section and everyone else in blue and white erupted in cheers at the turn of events but down by three with the ball the Royals were unable to score.

Clark County then added one more free throw with 13 seconds left to win by four.

Mason County Wins Over Bishop Brossart

Royals Too Much For Mustangs

Mason County improved to a stellar 28 and 2 on the season by beating Bishop Brossart 63 to 57 Saturday in a highnoon showdown at The Fieldhouse. The Royals withstood a late comeback attempt by the Mustangs to advance to the Tournament Finals on Sunday.

Mason County was up by 16 points over Brossart and in control of the game when the Mustangs surged in the fourth quarter and cut the lead to four with under a minute to play. The Royals responded with a late run of their own on a two handed slam by Senior Tony Browning and Darius Miller's clutch score off a Mustang's costly turnover.

The Royals once again got off to a fast start, outscoring the Mustangs 16 to 7 in the First Quarter, behind the hot shooting of Trevor Setty who finished with 10 points . Miller led all Scorers with 26 points and Russ Middleton had 17 including 11 of 15 from the line. Senior Brad Pawsat had 12 Rebounds.

Mason County will play the Clark County Cardinals in the Championship Game at 3pm Sunday.

Miller continued his excellent tournament play with 26 Points on 9 of 19 shooting from the field and 9 of 14 from the free throw line. Miller dominated defensively, in the paint and elsewhere, with 6 blocked shots and 4 steals.

Mason County vs. Bishop Brossart in Semifinals

Royals Play Mustangs Saturday at Noon

The two winners from Wednesday night, Mason County and Bishop Brossart, will meet for the third time this season in the Semifinals of the 10th Region Tournament this Saturday at The Fieldhouse. The Royals have won both previous contests by an average of 17 points per game.

Darius Miller Scored 29 points against the Mustangs just a couple weeks ago in a 12 point win at home. Earlier in the year, the Royals beat Brossart in the Championship Game of the Mason County Invitational Tournament 56 - 33.

Bishop Brossart is rated 18th in the State and 3rd in the Region (Dave Cantrall Rates The State).

Mason County Knocks Out Montgomery County in First Round of Regional

Royals Win 71 - 54

The Highly Rated Mason County Royals made quick work of the Montgomery County Indians Wednesday Night in the First Round of the 10th Region tournament exploding for 29 First Quarter Points behind the dominant performance of Junior Forward Darius Miller and the sizzling Three Point shooting of Sophomore Guard Russ Middleton.
An exuberant, packed Fieldhouse watched The Royals burn the nets up, getting off to a decisive lead early and stretching it to as much as 30 points in the Third Quarter. Darius Miller Led both teams in Scoring and Rebounding, ringing up a double double on 19 points and 10 rebounds. Middleton finished with 15 Points on Five Three Pointers.

Royal's Star Forward Darius Miller was 7 of 10 from the field, 1 of 2 from three point range, and 4 of 5 from the line. His hustle on the Boards earned him 10 rebounds and his signature unselfish play garnered him 7 assists. Miller was able to control the game and dominated in the paint on both ends. He had 3 blocks and 2 steals.
